Pedro Xeché Ajcabul

Principal and Teacher (2023 Fellow)

Community: Cantón Panabaj, Santiago Atitlán, Sololá, Guatemala
School: Escuela Oficial Rural Mixta Cantón Panabaj

Pedro has been working in education for over 17 years. Today, he is a school principal and part-time high school teacher. Outside of work, Pedro is a member of the Parish Pastoral Center of the Catholic Church, an advisor to the school board, and oversees the Ministry of Education’s school programs.

In 2004, Storm Stan hit Pedro’s community of Cantón Panabaj, killing over 200 people. Given that many of the survivors’ children attend the school, Pedro and his colleagues are dedicated to providing quality education that addresses the whole child, including promoting activities for students to discover and develop their talents. In 2022, Pedro began promoting the incorporation of music in classrooms. Pedro aims to not only develop the music program but also promote other subjects and skills that support multiple intelligences.

As a ConnectED Fellow, Pedro hopes to create new relationships and gain the skills to manage projects with a pedagogical focus to improve student learning. Pedro envisions adapting the curriculum to fit the needs of individual schools and is looking forward to guidance and support.
