Maria Catalina Sisay Tziná

Maria is a first-grade bilingual school teacher and an active member of her community. While she is grateful to be surrounded by supportive colleagues, there are limited resources and opportunities available within her school and community. Without internet access or a computer center, Maria fears that the lack of access to technology will put children and youth in her community at a severe disadvantage. 

Maria is eager to engage her community to ensure that all children receive basic necessities, specifically, improved nutrition and health. Maria believes that in order to improve access and quality of education in her community, they must first address the basics.

“Teaching children and playing with them, despite the problems we have, are the most important because those moments with them bring happiness to their life and my life.”
