School: Centro Educativo Núcleo Familiar Educativo para el Desarrollo (NUFED 67)

Sergio graduated with a bachelor’s degree and currently teaches middle school Social Studies and Mathematics at Centro Educativo Núcleo Familiar Educativo para el Desarrollo (NUFED 67) in Quetzaltenango. Sergio is from Quetzaltenango where he currently lives with his own family. His school, NUFED 67, works alongside CEIPA, an NGO focused on creating opportunities for the development of children and adolescents in Quetzaltenango. As a coach for the chess team, Sergio actively supports extracurricular activities in his community.

Sergio joined ConnectED to provide his community with opportunities to improve their quality of life.

“The Program will allow my community to work together to have access to more opportunities that contribute to a better quality of life.”

Problem: Sergio’s school faces significant challenges due to the absence of computers, limiting teachers’ ability to implement diverse and interactive lessons for students. Compounding this issue, the Ministry of Education mandates technology education in all middle schools, requiring students to seek external computer classes at their own expense to acquire these essential technological skills.

Solution: Thanks to Sergio’s project, students now have access to a dedicated computer class at school. The technological center, equipped with a projector, projector screen, and laptops, not only aims to improve teaching methods for increased interactivity and engagement but also ensures that students can enhance their technological skills without incurring additional expenses. This project is significant as it grants all students equal access to computer education within the school environment, and contributes to elevating the overall quality of education.
