Maria Olga Santiago Brito

María Olga has dedicated 13 years to teaching at Instituto de Educación Básica Asentamiento Las Violetas, specializing in middle school subjects such as Mayan culture and languages, communications and language, Spanish language, math, and natural sciences. Additionally, she teaches at Instituto de Educación Básica at night. Her background includes Intercultural Bilingual Primary Education (Spanish and Ixil), Pedagogy, and Education Administration. Beyond teaching, María Olga volunteers on the Peace Corps Advisory Committee for youth development projects and the Board of Directors of Limitless Horizons Ixil in Chajul. She also teaches Spanish to children and youth needing support and facilitates reinforcement sessions for students. María Olga is eager to join ConnectED for its support for rural education, hoping her school can benefit. Despite challenges in the education system, María Olga remains dedicated to her student’s success and continuous self-growth including pursuing a Master’s Degree in Education and an Ixil Mayan Language course.
