Byron has over 20 years of experience in education and currently works as a teacher for 5th and 6th-grade students at the Escuela Oficial Rural Mixta Aldea Xejaví. With a background in primary education and ongoing studies in agricultural sciences, pedagogy, and educational administration, Byron is dedicated to enhancing the learning experience for his students.

Born in Tecpan and raised in a family of eight, Byron’s journey in education and agriculture has been driven by his love for learning and his deep connection to the land. With over 21 years of teaching experience at primary and secondary levels, coupled with his agricultural expertise, Byron has made significant contributions to both sectors.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Byron is a devoted father of three and actively engages in community and extracurricular activities. He volunteers his time to support students in various subjects, showcasing his commitment to education.

Byron’s interest in the ConnectED Fellows Program stemmed from his belief in the transformative power of education and his desire to contribute to his school’s development. For Byron, ConnectED is an opportunity to access resources and support that will benefit his school, community, and education at large.

“I am eager to continue with this work to support my community that so badly needs an incentive for deeper economic, educational, family, and social development.”

Problem: The absence of modern technology in the school causes teachers to depend on outdated textbooks, hindering their ability to enhance the teaching and learning experience for students. Without technological resources, students are confined to a limited understanding of life beyond their communities.

Solution: Byron’s school has welcomed a new era of education with the introduction of SMART TVs and a RACHEL digital library. Every classroom across different grade levels is equipped with a SMART TV, accompanied by a laptop for seamless connectivity, and RACHEL to foster interactive learning throughout the entire school. The transformative impact has increased excitement among students, teachers, and parents alike. No longer relying on textbooks, this project has provided students access to interactive educational programs, videos, and internet resources, improving the teaching and learning experience.
